WHAT: Mandela Washington Fellows Farewell Celebration

EVENT: Members of the 2023 Mandela Washington Fellows will showcase their talents and cultures from their individual countries in Africa to wrap up their six-week academic leadership training. Texas Tech University's International Affairs (IA) has hosted this year's cohort since June 21. The Mandela Washington Fellowship began in 2014 in conjunction with the Young African Leaders Initiative to cultivate leaders between the ages of 25 to 35 from the Sub-Saharan region of the continent. Texas Tech's involvement with the international leadership program began in 2017.
The 24 professionals from 18 different Sub-Saharan countries in Africa will join 700 fellows and staff from universities across the U.S. in Washington, D.C. for a national summit on July 30 before heading back to their home countries.
