Texas Tech launches research program on how to grow lavender as a profitable crop

I often get questions about growing lavender in Texas. Everyone wants to grow it, but this fragrant shrub can be surprisingly difficult to keep alive in our state. Depending on the variety, lavender is sensitive to too much humidity, heavy rains, extended cold periods and excessive heat. It's no wonder that, by my reckoning, the average life span of backyard lavender is about 9 to 11 months.
