The weekend-long event unleashes participants’ inner entrepreneurs.
WHAT: Texas Tech University's Innovation Hub at Research Park hosts its seventh annual Red Raider Startup Weekend, which media are invited to attend and cover.
WHEN:
- 2-5 p.m. Friday (Sept. 22), brainstorming and team formation
- Noon-4 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 24), final presentation and awards ceremony
WHERE: Innovation Hub at Research Park, 3911 Fourth St.
EVENT: Red Raider Startup participants get hands-on experience forming a team around an idea, validating their idea through customer discovery, developing a presentation and pitching to a panel of judges. The team with the best pitch will win $1,000.
After a high-energy brainstorming session on Day 1, participants vote on their favorite ideas and break into startup teams. On Day 2, the teams work directly with iTTU Mentors from various industries, speed-dating style, and then attend hands-on workshops led by real entrepreneurs to further develop their final presentations.
On Day 3, teams present their ideas in a “Shark Tank”TM-like event. Judges evaluate each pitch based on its ability for commercialization into a real startup company. The winning team will be announced at the conclusion.
