Texas Tech Hosts Barbecue and Ribeye Championship Cook-Off

Raider Red Meats and the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) will collaborate for the annual barbecue and ribeye state championship.

WHAT:  2023 Raider Red Meats Barbeque and Ribeye Championship Cook-Off hosted by Texas Tech University in collaboration with H-E-B and the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). 

WHEN:  9:30 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 19)

WHERE:  Animal and Food Science Livestock Arena, 1308 N. Indiana Ave. 

EVENT:  Presented by H-E-B and sanctioned by KCBS the annual Raider Red Meats Barbeque and Ribeye Championship Cook-Off will be hosted at Texas Tech. 

Saturday's festivities kick off at 9:30 a.m. with a demonstration on how to win your backyard barbecue and continue throughout the day with the state championship cookoff.

The event will feature barbecue celebrities and teams from across the country competing against one another.

All proceeds generated from Raider Red Meats will go toward scholarships, judging team funds and graduate student research in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources or to local projects. 

“This event directly benefits our students and our community,” said Tate Corliss, director of Raider Red Meats. “We take pride in developing students who have the knowledge and skills to be viable assets in their future careers in the agricultural industry and beyond.”

The partnership with KCBS and its 19,000 members allows the event to provide a more enjoyable experience for those who attend. The events are open to all ages.
