Stewart Named Acting Dean of College of Media & Communication

David Perlmutter will return to a faculty role within the college.

Rob Stewart has been named acting dean of the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University, effective today (July 31).

Stewart currently serves as a professor in the Department of Communication Studies and most recently as senior vice provost of the university. He previously served as an associate dean in the College of Arts & Sciences and chair of the Department of Communication Studies, and he is a member of the Texas Tech Teaching Academy. His teaching and research interests span interpersonal communication, instructional communication, communication and religion, and public speaking and professional presentations.

He is a past president of the Texas Speech Communication Association and co-authored two widely adopted college textbooks, A Speaker's Guide: Text and Reference, and A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking. 

He earned his bachelor's degree from Lubbock Christian University, his master's degree from Texas Tech and a doctorate from West Virginia University.

Stewart replaces David L. Perlmutter, who served as dean of the college since 2013. Perlmutter will return to the faculty in January following modified instructional leave. A search for a permanent dean will begin next year.
