Middle School STEM Challenge Competition to be Held Friday

Texas Tech’s STEM CORE and Lubbock ISD came together and challenged local middle school students to build driver-propelled cars.

WHAT:  2023 Lubbock Independent School District/ Texas Tech University STEM Challenge competition

WHEN:  9:30 a.m. Friday (June 9)

WHERE:  Monterey High School Track, 3211 47th St.

EVENT:  The Texas Tech University's STEM Center for Outreach, Research & Education and the Lubbock Independent School District (LISD) again joined forces for the 2023 Middle School STEM Challenge. The challenge pits students from 10 Lubbock middle schools against each other in a weeklong competition to design and build a mode of transportation.

Teams are made up of a math or science teacher and four students from each LISD school along with one undergraduate student mentor from Texas Tech. This year's competition was to design a driver-propelled car and culminates in Friday's event where the creations will be put to the test. 

Vehicles will be available for viewing at 9:30 a.m. with the competition at 10 a.m. Lunch and the award ceremony will follow the competition.
