Texas Tech also received top marks in engineering and education while vet school makes its rankings debut.
U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday (April 25) released its 2023-24 Best Graduate Programs rankings, and several programs in the Graduate School at Texas Tech University were recognized while one made its debut in the rankings.
“Graduate education is vital to research and innovation and to developing the highly skilled workforce needed for economic growth and security,” said Mark Sheridan, dean of the Graduate School. “These rankings recognize the high quality of our graduate programs, the importance and impact of our research and scholarly work, and our commitment to better preparing students to enter, succeed and advance in the workforce.”
The Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering was ranked No. 104, highlighted by six programs ranked within the top 100:
- Petroleum engineering: No. 9, up two spots from 2022
- Industrial engineering: No. 50
- Chemical engineering: No. 72
- Civil engineering: No. 64, up 16 spots from 2022
- Electrical engineering: No. 85, up five spots from 2022
- Mechanical engineering: No. 97
U.S. News & World Report released its 2023 Best Graduate Schools law school rankings in May, and the Texas Tech School of Law made a significant jump from years past, coming in at No. 71 in the nation.
“We are very proud to see the Law School advance to our highest U.S. News ranking ever,” said Jack Wade Nowlin, dean of the School of Law. “The Law School continues to improve, and we are also pleased to see an important shift in the methodology of the rankings to place more value on crucial student success outcomes like employment and bar passage. We always put our students first, and this higher ranking reflects our core commitment to their success."
In addition to the overall ranking for the law school, 13 programs within the School of Law also made the list, including:
- Legal writing: No. 32
- Trial advocacy: No. 40
- Dispute resolution: No. 50
- Tax law: No. 62
- Criminal law: No. 84
The College of Education made one of the biggest jumps from 2022, leapfrogging 42 spots to No. 64.
Making its debut in the rankings is the School of Veterinary Medicine, which opened in the fall of 2021. The school is ranked No. 27.
