The district broke ground on the Keith Bell Opportunity Central, a facility to be used also by Texas Tech and Dallas College.
Earlier today (Jan. 18), Texas Tech University, along with Forney Independent School District (ISD) and Dallas College – Eastfield Campus, broke ground on the Keith Bell Opportunity Central facility. The facility will be Texas Tech eLearning & Academic Partnerships' newest regional site. No specific degree programs have been announced yet.
“Texas Tech is excited about our new partnership with Forney ISD and the new Keith Bell Opportunity Central,” said Justin Louder, associate vice provost of eLearning & Academic Partnerships. “We plan to offer innovative programs at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels in Forney that will allow students to obtain a Texas Tech education without having to move. We look forward to working with the Forney ISD School Board, Dallas College and the Forney community.”
The facility is set to open in the fall of 2023. The regional site will function differently than other sites because it will offer new and innovative degree programs and certifications that cater to future job markets.
“Texas Tech is excited about the partnership with Forney ISD and Dallas College,” said Melanie Hart, vice provost of eLearning & Academic Partnerships. “The Opportunity Central provides the venue for Texas Tech to offer designer degrees that will allow students to create their own programs of study and develop skills that will prepare them for future careers. In addition to academic programs, we plan to offer continuing education classes and certificates, as well as classes through Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) for individuals 50 years of age and older.”
The new facility will be a state-of-the-art college and career center designed to create a collaborative space for the community and its partners. The estimated 350,000-square-foot building will be a three-tier facility featuring multiple athletic practice spaces, eight eateries and a coffee bar, spaces for events and banquets, as well as a 600-seat black-box theatre, a recording studio and more.
The facility will be used by Forney ISD students as well as students from Texas Tech and Dallas College – Eastfield Campus.
