Climate Center Hosts Virtual 'Science by the Glass' Event

Texas Tech University's Climate Center hosts the virtual “Understanding What You Do During Severe Weather.”

WHEN:

5 p.m. Tuesday (May 11)

Virtually presented via Zoom

EVENT:

Researchers at the Oklahoma University Center for Risk and Crisis Management have collected survey data annually since 2017 about how people across the U.S. use severe weather information to make decisions. This presentation will highlight some of the key findings from this work and how the severe weather notification system may change in the next decade. The ultimate goal is to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the current communication system before any changes are made.

Bring your favorite beverage, pull up a chair and join us for our last Science by the Glass this spring.

The talk will be followed by an interactive Q&A session.

The Texas Tech University College of Arts & Sciences was founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges.

Comprised of 16 departments and more than 400 tenured faculty members, the College offers a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics and natural sciences. Students can choose from 41 bachelor's degree programs, 34 master's degrees and 14 doctoral programs.

The Climate Center at Texas Tech University conducts interdisciplinary research to address the interactive effects of climate variability across the full array of landscapes within the South Central U.S. We provide the science, tools, and information to link current conditions with regional climate projections, and examine the real-world decision making and planning that can be used to best anticipate, monitor, and adapt to this projected climate change.
