What Hurricane Laura's deadly winds, water are teaching scientists

Shreveport Times - A massive storm surge and rough waves already were pushing inland from the Gulf of Mexico and Hurricane Laura’s earliest gusty winds and dark clouds threatened as a group of storm chasers hit Holly Beach.

While Theiss and Timmer watched lightning and flying debris from their specialized vehicles, a group from Texas Tech University parked heavy duty trucks tethered to portable, high-resolution radars on a bridge and highway overpass in nearby Port Arthur, Texas.
