The ribbon-cutting marks the completion of the first phase of the expansion and renovation of the Charles E. Maedgen Jr. Theatre.
WHAT:
The Texas Tech University Office of the President will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday (Oct. 4) for the School of Theatre & Dance Complex, part of the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts (TCVPA). The School of Theatre & Dance also will host public tours and two other events on the same day to honor TCVPA faculty members.
EVENTS:
Media and the public are invited to all events unless otherwise indicated. Parking registration is not needed for events after 4 p.m.
Dedication of the Creative Movement Studio Lobby
11 a.m., Creative Movement Studio, southwest corner of Akron and Glenna Goodacre avenues,
just north of the Petroleum Engineering building
The lobby of the Creative Movement Studio will be dedicated to Diana Moore, former
head of the school's dance program. Mark Charney, director of the School of Theatre & Dance, will deliver welcome remarks,
followed by a performance by students, faculty and alumni. TCVPA Dean Noel Zahler
will lead the plaque unveiling and dedication. The event was organized by alumnus
Luke Kahlich, who will be joined by Texas Tech performance and pedagogy graduate student
Yvonne Racz-Key, who serves as artistic director for Ballet Lubbock, and Texas Tech
alumna and Broadway star Jennifer Smith. A reception will immediately follow the dedication.

The School of Theatre & Dance will conduct public tours of the new complex at 2, 3
and 4 p.m.

The Office of the President will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception for
the new School of Theatre & Dance Complex. Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec
will join Zahler and Charney in delivering remarks. The reception will immediately
follow the ceremony.
Production of 'Doctor Love' and retirement reception
7:30 p.m., Lobby and Black Box Theatre in the School of Theatre & Dance Complex
The inaugural production in the Black Box Theatre of "Doctor Love" is directed by
professor emeritus Jonathan Marks, who will be honored at a reception immediately
following the production. These events are open to ticket holders only, but media
is invited to the reception.
