Raider Red’s One-Act Play Spectacular/Raider Red’s Awesome Dance Spectacular features plays and dance pieces written and choreographed by students.
Texas Tech University's School of Theatre & Dance, housed within the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts, will present Raider Red's One-Act Play Spectacular (RROAPS) / Raider Red's Awesome Dance Spectacular (RRADS) April 1-6 in the Creative Movement Studio located on the Texas Tech campus. Curtain times for the productions are 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
RROAPS/RRADS is an annual new-works event featuring student-written one-act plays and student-choreographed dance pieces. The evening explores what it means to first find your voice and then make it heard. From the fanciful to the gritty, and the romantic to the enigmatic, these original works not only hold a mirror up to reality but also delve into the truth behind the ordinary.
"RROAPS/RRADS is a collaborative experience for choreographers, performers, directors, dramaturgs and playwrights," said associate artistic director Juliet Wallace. "This production requires an immense amount of dedication, open-mindedness and teamwork."
Included in this year's lineup are works by graduate and undergraduate students Garret Milton, Jessica Smith, LyaNisha Gonzalez, Michael Moriearty, Tom Laney, Courtney Rickel, Hannah Haeussler, Tiara Scarlett, Shawnee Swann and Sulma Benitez.
Tickets for RROAPS/RRADS are $5 for individuals and free for faculty, staff and Texas Tech students with a valid ID. More information is available at (806) 742-3603 or www.theatre.ttu.edu.
