Texas Tech University Student Housing is calling for submissions from students, student organizations, staff and faculty members for the annual Recycled Art Contest.

The contest will be held Thursday (March 28) in the Red Raider Ballroom of the Student Union Building (SUB) and requires entries to be at least 75 percent recyclable materials. Contest entries can take whatever form the artist prefers, including sculpture, jewelry or painting. Each piece should not be bigger than 24 inches by 36 inches, with the exception of clothing, which must be displayed in some way by the artist.

"We want people to get excited about recycling and reusing," said Melanie Tatum, unit assistant director in Sustainability and Warehouse Operations. "People need to come to the SUB and see what people can do with 'trash.' The winner will be chosen based on who has the most votes, so if you know someone who has entered, they need you to vote for them."

The deadline for entry forms is 5 p.m. Tuesday (March 26). Entries must be dropped off between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. March 28 in the SUB courtyard and picked up between 2 and 3 p.m. the same day. The pieces will be on display throughout the day and voted on by visitors to the exhibit.

First-, second- and third-place winners will receive prizes provided by Barnes & Noble and Chick-fil-A. Winners will be notified by email and an announcement on Facebook.
