Performances from the School of Music are part of this month's schedule.

Texas Tech University's J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts (TCVPA) houses the School of Art, the School of Music and the School of Theatre & Dance. Each school gives students, faculty, staff and visiting artists the opportunity to exhibit and perform works on campus and in the community throughout the year.

Here is what is on the slate for April:

Jazz Festival & Concert

The School of Music's 52nd annual Jazz Festival & Concert will be hosted at 6:30 p.m. April 13 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 1501 Mac Davis Lane. Tom Harrell, a critically acclaimed jazz trumpeter, will accompany the jazz ensembles from the School of Music. Harrell's work has been performed by artists including Carlos Santana, Cold Blood and Vince Guaraldi. Tickets are $20 for adults and can be purchased at all Select-A-Seat locations. Texas Tech faculty and students can attend for free with a valid ID.

University Symphony Orchestra Concert

Under the direction of associate conductor Theo Vinden, the University Symphony Orchestra will host its next concert at 2 p.m. April 15 in Hemmle Recital Hall. The orchestra will perform Jean Sibelius' "Symphony No. 5." The concert is free and open to the public.
