Events include exhibits from the School of Art and an opera from the School of Music.

Texas Tech University's J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts (TCVPA) houses the School of Art, the School of Music and the School of Theatre & Dance. Each school gives students, faculty, staff and visiting artists the opportunity to exhibit and perform works on campus and in the community throughout the year.

Here are some of the ones to watch for in January.

Jess Peri: Accuracy Test

The Texas Tech School of Art will host the "Jess Peri: Accuracy Test" exhibition beginning Wednesday (Jan. 16) in the SRO Photo Gallery in the School of Art building. Peri uses GPS technology with photography to etch within an image the performative memory of a body's presence in a space. The exhibit runs through Feb. 10.

Miguel Brieva: Welcome to the World

The School of Art also will host, in collaboration with the Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures the "Miguel Brieva: Welcome to the World" exhibition beginning Jan. 19 in the Studio Gallery in the School of Art building. The exhibition spans Brieva's career and reflects his sharp political wit and talent for incisive commentary through his cartoons. There will be a reception featuring the artist at 7 p.m. March 1. The exhibition runs through March 3.

The Graduate Opera Project: Orfeo ed Eurydice

The School of Music's Graduate Opera Project will perform "Orfeo ed Euridice" at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23 in Hemmle Recital Hall. Directed by Rebecca Wascoe Hays, assistant professor of voice, graduate vocal students will perform with early instruments and vocal melodic treatments that were prevalent in the late 18th century.
