Students Participate in Fall 2018 Commencement

Graduates participate in commencement ceremony.

Schedule, top graduates and banner bearers are announced.

Texas Tech University will host fall commencement  ceremonies Friday (Dec. 14) and Saturday (Dec. 15) at the United Supermarkets Arena, located at 1701 Indiana Ave. A total of 2,723 undergraduate and graduate students will walk the stage.

"Commencement provides the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our students, along with their families and friends," said Lawrence Schovanec, Texas Tech president. "I commend our faculty and staff for their role in the education of our students. We look forward to their continued success as members of the Red Raider family." 

Ceremonies can be viewed online via livestream.

On Friday, the 3 p.m. ceremony features the College of Arts & Sciences and the 7 p.m. ceremony features the Graduate School.

The 9 a.m. ceremony Saturday features the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration,College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources, University Programs, Wind Energy and the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts.

The ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Saturday features the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering, Honors College, College of Education, College of Architecture, College of Human Sciences and the College of Media & Communication.

Edward E. Whitacre Jr., a 1964 graduate of Texas Tech and former chairman and CEO of both AT&T and General Motors, will serve as speaker for the fall 2018 commencement ceremonies.

About Edward E. Whitacre Jr.

Whitacre earned his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and is now the namesake of the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering. Whitacre also contributed to renovations to Jones AT&T Stadium and the new Whitacre Athletic Complex.
