Office of International Affairs Hosts Culture Fest 2018

The event will feature music, dance, art and food that celebrates multicultural heritage of the international community at the university.

WHAT: Texas Tech University's Office of International Affairs (OIA) Culture Fest 2018

WHEN: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 13)

WHERE: International Cultural Center, 601 Indiana Ave.

EVENT: Culture Fest 2018 celebrates the diverse multicultural heritage of the international community at Texas Tech with festival events, including international music and dance, art projects, food and cultural activities that are family friendly. The event is free and open to the public.

Partners for the event include the Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures, the Museum of Texas Tech University, The Center for Global Communication and the Texas Tech School of Music.

Support also has been provided in part by a grant from The CH Foundation.

International Affairs

International Affairs supports and facilitates the international mission of Texas Tech University. It provides services for faculty and students and offers international educational and cultural experiences for the University and community, and is a major contributor to the globalization process of the University and its growing reputation as a major international educational and research center.

International Affairs coordinates international activities at Texas Tech and is composed of the following divisions:

Museum of Texas Tech

The Museum of Texas Tech University, with its more than eight million objects, is one of the largest and most diverse university museums in the U.S.

The Museum has collections ranging from fine and decorative arts, natural science, clothing and textiles, history and anthropology and archaeology.

The Museum's Natural Science Research Laboratory houses an internationally important collection of fauna and frozen tissue samples and has played a role in identifying major human health risks, such as Hanta Virus.

The Lubbock Lake Landmark, another division of the Museum, is one of the country's most significant archaeological sites documenting continuous human habitation dating back 12,000 years.

The museum also is home to an academic program offering a master's degree in Heritage and Museum Science.

School of Music

The School of Music is part of the J.T. and Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts.

Faculty includes a performing specialist on all band and orchestral instruments as well as piano, voice, organ, harp and guitar, and specialists in conducting, composition, electronic music, music education, musicology, world music and music theory.
