Texas Tech University and Family Set to Honor Officer Floyd East Jr.

WHAT: Moment of silence for Officer Floyd East Jr. 

WHEN: 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 9)

WHERE: Memorial Circle at Pfluger Fountain

EVENT: Texas Tech University will honor Officer Floyd East Jr. with a moment of silence on the one-year anniversary of his death while on duty for the Texas Tech Police Department.

Beginning at approximately 1:45 p.m., Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec, Student Government President Sean Lewis and Texas Tech Police Chief Kyle Bonath will speak before the moment of silence is observed at 2 p.m. During the moment of silence, police vehicles surrounding the circle will turn on their lights.

Boulder Design of Lubbock and the Gunslingers motorcycle club of law enforcement officers have donated a boulder bearing East's name. The boulder will be unveiled at 2 p.m. on Oct. 27 outside the Texas Tech Police Department.
