(VIDEO) Whether you're a bicyclist or jogger, traversing campus is now easier with the addition of a shared use path, which runs adjacent to 19th Street.
The path is ten feet wide, more than a mile long and was designed and developed thanks to a partnership that included Texas Tech University, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the City of Lubbock.
"It's just a way to get pedestrians and bicyclists from one side of campus to the other a little safer," said Mike Wittie, Lubbock area engineer for TxDOT.
The year-long project also included improvements to the 19th Street median between University and Memphis Avenues. New curbs were poured along with sidewalks and ramps, and drought-tolerant landscaping was added.
"It's partnering for the community," Charles Leatherwood, managing director for grounds maintenance, added. "(It's an area that) gets used all the time."
