Campus safety is one of Texas Tech's top priorities, and there are a number of measures that have been implemented to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff. It's an effort that requires assistance from multiple agencies including the Texas Tech Police Department, which has officers who patrol campus at all times. Ronald Phillips, Texas Tech's emergency management coordinator, said it's such an important part of the institution that he and his team work on ways to improve campus safety every day.
"I work with people across campus to try to make sure that we have a safe and secure campus," Phillips said. "Probably one of the most important aspects of being able to respond effectively in emergency situations is communication."
