Silicon Valley Entrepreneur Paul Singh to Share Experiences With Local Students, Leaders

Seven events are open for media coverage during Singh's three-day visit to West Texas.

Local media will have seven different opportunities next week to see well-known Silicon Valley entrepreneur and investor Paul Singh interact and share his knowledge with West Texas students, city and business leaders, and business leaders of the future.

The Texas Tech University Innovation Hub at Research Park and its partners, including Truno, the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering, the Rawls College of Business, the Office of the Chancellor, Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Frenship Independent School District and Primitive Social, are supporting the entrepreneurial environment by bringing Singh to West Texas from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.

The following events are open to the media for coverage:

Media interviews

WHAT: Singh will be available for interviews. Media will be greeted at the door and shown where to set up.

WHEN: 3-3:45 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 31)

WHERE: Innovation Hub at Research Park, 3911 4th St.

Young Entrepreneurs Academy

WHAT: Singh will meet with members of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, a 30-week entrepreneurial boot camp to inspire 11- to 18-year-olds to be entrepreneurs. The academy is a collaborative effort between the Innovation Hub and the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. Media will have the opportunity to take photos and interview students about their experience with the Young Entrepreneurs Academy.

WHEN: 4:30-5 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 31)

WHERE: Innovation Hub at Research Park, 3911 4th St.

Local leaders reception

WHAT: Singh will meet with local leaders, including Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec, Chancellor Robert Duncan, the chancellor's council, members of the Lubbock City Council, the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and Primitive Social. Media will have photo opportunities with Singh and leaders.

WHEN: 5-6:45 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 31)

WHERE: Innovation Hub at Research Park, 3911 4th St.

1 Million Cups

WHAT: 1 Million Cups is a nationwide entrepreneurial network that brings together early stage startup companies and an audience of peers, mentors, educators and investors. Meetings occur on the first Wednesday of every month. Singh will share his story of how he has invested in more than 500 startup companies.

WHEN: 9-10:15 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 1)

WHERE: Innovation Hub at Research Park, 3911 4th St.

Frenship High School presentation

WHAT: Singh and his team will plant the seeds of entrepreneurship at the earliest stage by speaking to business students about the importance of starting early, sharing his successes and the education that got him there and discussing the importance of business and marketing plans.

WHEN: 2:15-3:30 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 1)

WHERE: Frenship High School, 902 Dowden Road in Wolfforth. Take U.S. 62/82 southwest from Lubbock. Take the exit for Texas Loop 193/82nd Street/Wolfforth. Turn right onto Donald Preston Drive, then turn left onto Dowden Road.

Lunch-and-learn workshop

WHAT: Singh will lead a lunch-and-learn workshop with students from the Whitacre College of Engineering. He will share his expertise on managing interdisciplinary teams, what investors are looking for, how to get a pitch across and how much money is required to start a venture.

WHEN: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 2)

WHERE: Rawls College of Business, Fireplace Room

Entrepreneurial workshop

WHAT: During this exciting workshop, Singh will share his experiences and lessons learned from investing. Attendees can learn how to take their ideas to the next level and take away best practices.

WHEN: 2-5 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 2)
