Texas Tech's global point of view: University pushes its borders way past Lubbock

4Traders - "Bear our banners far and wide": At Texas Tech, the line in the alma mater about going out into the world has meaning.

With more than 3,000 international students from 108 countries at Tech this year, as well as Tech students and alums in countries around the world, the university has a global presence. Tech is continually seeking to expand the main campus presence from the boundaries of 19th Street, University Avenue and the Marsha Sharp Freeway.

This effort is evident in projects that are closer to home, including proposals for a new dental school in El Paso and a school of veterinary medicine in Amarillo, as well as efforts in places as far flung as Spain, Costa Rica and Ethiopia.

"Technically, the sun never does set on a Texas Tech alum or a Texas Tech student, or a destination or origin country for Texas Tech students," said former Ambassador Tibor Nagy, the vice provost for international affairs at the university.
