Neuroscientist suggests ‘mindfulness meditation’ for smokers who want to quit

Abilene Reporter-News - The percentage of American adults who smoke dropped to 15 percent last year, the lowest percentage in U.S. history, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The rate represents a drop of 2 percentage points from 2014.

Yi-Yuan Tang, a psychology professor at Texas Tech University, said he sees the statistics as a mixed blessing.

Although he's happy to see that smoking, and the myriad health problems it causes, has declined, he said he believes that much of the reduction is due to electronic cigarettes and the fact that the number of venues in which people can smoke have been limited.
