South Plains Closing the Gaps P-20 Council will host College Signing Day to celebrate the achievements of high school seniors who plan to attend college from 10-11 a.m. Friday (May 2) in the Lubbock City Bank Auditorium.
High School students from the Region 17 area will sign their commitment letters to colleges at the event. The celebration will include remarks by college students and participation by Texas Tech University President M. Duane Nellis, as well as presidents from South Plains College and Lubbock Christian University. Individual seniors who are pursuing higher education beyond high school also will be recognized.
“An initiative of the regional Generation Texas campaign is to recognize accomplishments and future plans of our high school graduates by hosting a College Signing Day,” said Janie Ramirez, executive director of South Plains Closing the Gaps P-20 Council. “Much like the signing day for sports, this event highlights the student’s plans to pursue higher education beyond high school.”
The South Plains council will join the communities around the state by showing their support for local students and their goal of attending college by wearing a college T-shirt during the day.
