WHAT: Sigma Delta Pi’s Sixth Annual Forum on Peace and Security
WHEN: 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (April 1)
WHERE: International Cultural Center Auditorium, 601 Indiana Ave.
EVENT: The Texas Tech University chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, a national collegiate Hispanic honor society, will host a forum focusing on the topics of cybersecurity and privacy. Panelists will include Sam Segran, Randy Reddick, Col. Davis Lewis and Vickie Sutton. Tibor Nagy, vice provost of international affairs at Texas Tech, will act as moderator.
Segran is the associate vice president for information technology and the chief information officer at Texas Tech. In his position he is responsible for all information technology (IT) operations and management for the university.
Reddick is a journalism professor at Texas Tech. His research focuses on the online element of reporting. His book, “The Online Journalist” has been translated into three different languages, and he has spoken on the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting panel.
Lewis graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. While in the Air Force he was primarily responsible for the development of the Block 50 F-16 aircraft. He served as Commander for the Air Force ROTC Detachment at Texas Tech where he was instrumental in the creation of the strategic studies graduate certificate program. Lewis is a visiting assistant professor in the political science department.
Sutton is the associate dean of research and faculty development at Texas Tech’s School of Law. She has served as a political appointee for President George W. Bush as the Chief Counsel for the Research and Innovative Technology Administration. During her time at Texas Tech, she has served as the director of the Center of Biodefense, Law and Public Policy, the only center at a law school in the country to focus solely on issues of law and biodefense, biosecurity and bioterrorism.
Sigma Delta Pi national offices are located College of Charleston in South Carolina. They are a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, the nation’s only certifying agency for college and university honor societies.
