The Texas Wind Energy Institute, a collaboration between Texas Tech University and the Texas State Technical College, and the Wind Alliance will host the Texas Wind Energy Workforce Summit on Oct. 14 at the AT&T Executive Center at the University of Texas.
The one-day event will offer educators, industry professionals, government representatives and other interested groups with an opportunity to examine the state of the Texas Wind Energy industry from a labor market perspective.
Speakers for the summit include Dwain Rogers, deputy commissioner for renewable energy at the Texas General Land Office; Donna L. Nelson, appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the public utility commission and a former special assistant and advisor to the governor on energy issues; MacGregor Stephenson, assistant commissioner for academic affairs and research at Texas A&M University and who previously served as Gov. Perry’s higher education advisor; and Rebecca A. Klein, principal of the regulatory and government affairs consulting company Klein Energy, LLC and current chairman of the board of the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA).
John Pappas, Vestas director of the Wind Energy Center at Texas A&M will deliver the luncheon keynote address.
Panelists from business, industry and higher education will discuss findings from the 2011 Texas Wind Energy Workforce Assessment, a project sponsored by the Texas Workforce Commission and conducted by The Wind Alliance and the Texas Wind Energy Institute.
