Texas Tech Names Agricultural Scholars

Texas Tech University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) recognized 2010-2011 Dean’s Scholars Feb. 18 at the Merket Alumni Center.

“These scholarships were established by the college to reward academic excellence and to support studious young men and women who choose to major in agricultural and natural sciences,’ said John M. Burns, dean of CASNR.

Dean’s Scholars Awards are based on academic excellence as well as leadership, character and citizenship. The Gold Award is a $14,400 four-year scholarship and the Silver Award is a $9,600 four-year scholarship. To keep the scholarship, recipients must maintain a 3.5 grade-point average for Gold Awards and a 3.3 grade-point average for Silver Awards. The scholarships are funded by various donations to the college.

The Gold Award winners are Blair Dingler, a freshman animal science major from Nocona; Kelsey Fletcher, a senior agricultural communications major from Universal City; Maggie Jones, a sophomore pre-veterinary major from Albuquerque, N.M.; Elizabeth Mack, a sophomore natural resources management major from Bryan; Colter St. Clair, a freshman natural resources management major from Ralls; Brittany Thompson, a freshman animal science major from Allen; Trevor White, a junior agriculture and general business double major from Tahoka, and Ashleigh Willems, a freshman food science major from Lubbock.

Silver Award winners are Teryn Bibb, a junior animal science major from Big Spring; Alexandra Borowski, a freshman agricultural communications major from Lincoln, N.M.; Matthew Bruton, a senior animal science major from Throckmorton; Kaitlyn Cash, a sophomore agricultural education and communications major from Lubbock; Kristen Dunn, a junior FDS major from Pampa; Steven Ebeling, a freshman animal science major from Plainview; Shane Garrett, a senior animal science major from Lubbock; Amy Gulick, a freshman pre-vet major from Lubbock; Samantha Huffman, a freshman animal science major from Carrollton; Michael Marley, a freshman agriculture and general business double major from Plainview; Jett Mason, a master’s student in agricultural communications from Brownfield; Joshua McCann, a senior animal science major from Newport, Va.; Stormie McClurg, a junior animal science major from Tulia; Shelby McCollum, a freshman agricultural communications major from Krum; Morgan Miller, a senior animal science major from Meadow; Samantha Piercy, a freshman animal science major from Lubbock; Skylar Sowder, a sophomore agricultural education and communications major from Sudan; Melissa Thomas, a freshman food science major from Colleyville; and Jessica Webster, a senior pre-veterinary major from Wolfforth.
