A draw with the University of Texas-Brownsville in its sixth and final match at the Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championships earned the University of Maryland, Baltimore County chess team a second-place finish last week.
The University of Texas-Dallas, which defeated UMBC earlier in the week, won the tournament, held in Milwaukee Dec. 27-30.
Texas-Brownsville finished third in the tournament
UMBC was followed by Texas Tech, the UMBC B team, Texas-Dallas B team, University of Toronto, Texas-Brownsville B Team, Stanford and Texas Tech B team.
