Sigma Delta Pi Honors 2010 Nobel Prize Winner

Texas Tech University’s Sigma Delta Pi, a national collegiate Hispanic honor society, is presenting a tribute to Mario Vargas Llosa, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature.

WHAT:           Sigma Delta Pi’s tribute to Mario Vargas Llosa WHEN:           4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 5) WHERE:         Room 001 Education Building, Tech Texas campus EVENT:          Texas Tech University’s Sigma Delta Pi, a national collegiate Hispanic honor society, is presenting a tribute to Mario Vargas Llosa, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature. He was awarded for his perception on the framework of structures of power and the articulations of an individual’s resistance, revolt, and defeat. Vargas Llosa, a Peruvian writer, politician, journalist and novelist, is internationally known for his novels “The Time of the Hero,” “The Green House,” and “Conversation in the Cathedral.” Many of his works are influenced by his perception of the Peruvian society and his personal experiences in the country. The tribute will include keynote speaker Jose Olascoaga, also a native Peruvian and expert in contemporary Latin American literature, who is pursuing a teacher’s certificate in Texas Tech’s College of Education.
