OUT YONDER: Passel of books shed light on Civil War on its anniversary

Go San Angelo - Another book that has some interesting Civil War stories is from Texas Tech University Press titled “The Accidental Historian,” by Monte Akers, an Austin lawyer who has had a romance with history most of his life. He and his wife, Patty, also an attorney, got involved in Civil War re-enactments, and both appeared in major movie productions about the war years, including the acclaimed “Gettysburg.”

As parts of the nation gear up to commemorate next year’s 150th anniversary of the Civil War, a passel of books has come on the market covering that very violent and sad period of American history.
