10th Annual Caprock Celtic Christmas Presents Traditional Holiday Repertoire

Singers, players, dancers, storytellers and various performers will take the stage at the 10th Annual Caprock Celtic Christmas at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 and 16 in the Talkington Great Hall at the Legacy Performance Center (14th Street and Avenue Q) in Lubbock.

The performance, presented by the Vernacular Music Center, the Texas Tech College of Visual and Performing Arts, the Caprock Celtic Association, and the Lubbock YMCA, will include traditional Irish, Welsh, Breton and English dance, along with instrumental dance tunes and slow airs. Gaelic, Welsh and English traditional songs also will be part of the repertoire.

Tom McGovern will return as this year's host and will introduce special guests such as Scottish piper Tom Campbell, Irish tenor Nat Cooper, bouzouki virtuoso Roger Landes, and the Appalachian banjo/fiddle duo of Mason Brown from Boulder, Colo., and Doug Goodhart, from Kansas City, Mo.

Lubbock's traditional Irish band, Johhny Faa, will play tunes and songs from its debut CD, "Last Night's Fun," and Tommy Joe Fisher & Friends will play "Celtic Country."

The event will be previewed on KOHM's Celtic Shores program at 9 p.m. Dec. 10, and 11 a.m. Dec 11. The Caprock Celtic Christmas also will be streamed in both audio and video live over 89.1 FM KOHM and KOHM.org, to listeners across the South Plains from 7-9 p.m. on the day of the event.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Vernacular Music Center Scholarship at Texas Tech. Tickets are $10.50 for general admission, $8.50 for seniors, and $5.50 for students, not including a $3 Select-A-Seat service charge.
