Texas Tech Meat Judging Teams Wins Eastern National Contest

The Texas Tech University Meat Judging Team began their fall judging season on Oct. 2 with a win at the Eastern National Contest.

The Texas Tech University Meat Judging Team broke a tie on Oct. 2 to secure its first victory of the year in Wyalusing, Pa.

After tying with Colorado State University for top honors, Texas Tech broke the tie by winning the reasons score by a 27-point margin.

“The team members have really committed themselves to reasons,” said Mark Miller, professor and coach of the team. “That’s what pulled them through at this contest.”

Three of the overall top-ten individuals were from Texas Tech. Loni Woolley, a junior from Grandview, Texas, won second place. Trevor White, a junior from New Home, Texas, ranked fifth, and Markus Miller, a junior from Abernathy, Texas, took home tenth place honors.

Other team members include Mai Lee Holmes, Jessica Kimbro, KatieRose McCullough, Nathan Reeves and Troy Tarpley.
