Little anticipation as start of quail season nears

Dallas Morning News - Quail hunters still shake their heads over the steady decline of their favorite game bird. Quail-Tech, a Texas Tech-based quail research group, recently turned up a blue quail from Potter County with antibodies for West Nile virus. It's a wonder any of these fragile game birds still exist, though I believe that swine flu and yellow fever are much worse quail problems than West Nile virus.

There's an irony in the fact that quail season begins Halloween weekend. It's likely to be another trick or treat quail season, more tricks than treats. Quail hunters I've spoken with aren't that excited about opening day, but then they never are.
