Texas Tech placed in ahead of schools such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Virginia and University of Notre Dame.
Texas Tech ranked 18 out of the top 25 schools that produce the best graduates in a survey conducted by the Wall Street Journal.
From the state of Texas, Texas Tech along with Texas A&M University were the only two schools to be ranked in the top 25. Texas Tech placed in ahead of schools such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Virginia and University of Notre Dame.
To conduct the survey, recruiters from nonprofit organizations, federal agencies and the nation’s largest public and private companies identified how many new graduates they hired in the previous year and also weighted rankings of schools according to major. Out of 842 recruiters asked to participate, 479 recruiters responded to calculate schools’ rankings for the best-trained and educated graduates to succeed once hired.
In addition, the final rankings were calculated using a point system. Those ratings were weighted by the reports from the companies on total graduates hired in the previous year.
In all, according to the recruiters, the list is comprised of the Top 25 schools that produce the best graduates in eight majors.
In a related article, the Wall Street Journal reported a Top 25 ranking among best engineering schools for Texas Tech’s Edward E. Whitacre College of Engineering, according to a survey by payscale.com. Texas Tech also ranks in the nation’s Top 80 schools for engineering, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2011 college rankings.
