Texas Tech Named "A Best in the West” College by Princeton Review

Texas Tech University is one of the best colleges in the West according to the nationally known education services company, The Princeton Review. Texas Tech was selected as one of the 120 institutions on in the website feature, “2011 Best Colleges: Region by Region,” available at http://www.princetonreview.com/TexasTechUniversity.aspx.

“This ranking is a reflection of the importance that Texas Tech places on undergraduate education,” said Bob Smith, Texas Tech provost. “The survey is based on input from our current students, an important source of information for those students who are in the process of choosing a university.”

“It is an honor to be recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the Best Colleges in the West, especially when the opinion of our students is considered so heavily in the survey,” said Texas Tech University System chancellor Kent Hance. “Texas Tech is a top-tier university that offers our students a quality education while also providing the skills necessary to succeed personally, professionally and civically.”

The project asks students to rate their own schools on several issues -- from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food -- and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students and their campus life.

“We’re pleased to recommend Texas Tech to users of our site as one of the best schools to earn their undergrad degree,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior vice president/publishing. “We chose it and the other terrific institutions we name as ‘regional best’ colleges mainly for their excellent academic programs.”

The Princeton Review is a New York-based company known for its test preparation courses, books, and college admission and other education services. It is not affiliated with Princeton University and it is not a magazine. The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges in its Best Colleges: Region by Region Website section.

The 120 colleges that The Princeton Review chose for its “Best in the West” list are located in 15 states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. The Princeton Review also ranked colleges in the Northeast, the Midwest and the Southeast as best in their locales.
