More minority teachers needed in Texas, study finds

Minority students in Texas are projected to make up 62 percent of the student body next school year, an increase of about 10 percent from a decade ago.

At Texas Tech University, education professors like Zenaida Aguirre-Munoz strive to recruit teachers early on.

"I think that's one of the ways we can increase the teacher pool," Professor Aguirre-Munoz says. "College of Education here at Texas Tech is well polished to do that because we have a number of projects here that are directly exactly to try to increase students' interest in going in the teacher force."
