Library Fair to Feature Smoothies, Swag and Demos

Texas Tech University Libraries will host its inaugural Library Services Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 14) in the Croslin Room of the University Library.

The event will offer an interactive forum for library patrons to ask questions, tour the building and see demonstrations about services provided, including electronic resources, personal librarians and free digital images. Information also will be provided on the many items available for checkout, including iPods, digital cameras, lighting kits, audiobooks, DVDs and more.

“So many times I help students at the reference desk and show them something, a database, for example, and they are so excited and surprised, because they didn’t know about all the resources the library offers,” said Kimberly Vardeman, assistant librarian and event coordinator. “We hope this fair will provide a perfect opportunity for students to learn about the library in a fun way!”

The fair will feature breakout workshops on EndNote Web, an online citations management tool, and on Mining Uncle Sam’s Data, featuring Geographic Information Systems, maps and patents. EndNote Web sessions will take place at 11 a.m. in Room 309 and at 1 p.m. in Lab 150 of the University Library. The Mining Uncle Sam’s Data session is scheduled at 2 p.m. in Room 309 of the University Library.
