Lubbock has been without a General Educational Development testing center since the end of 2009, but the high school equivalency testing will be available at Texas Tech beginning in the fall.
The Region 17 Education Service Center had operated a GED testing center in Lubbock for several years but closed it on Dec. 31, said Kyle Wargo, executive director of the ESC. They gave notice to the TEA in June 2009 that it would be closed, he said.
Since then, students who wanted to take the GED test had to travel to Plainview, Littlefield, Seminole, Amarillo or another city with a testing center.
