Texas Tech University is making changes at the Dub Parks Arena, located at Fourth Street and Quaker Avenue. The arena will be closed during August to undergo renovations to upgrade the facility.
Renovations include new fencing, repaired rails for practice areas and the installation of modern feed storage bins.
The arena is used for rodeo club practice and to teach equine animal science classes. Both private and Texas Tech owned horses are housed at the facility. Any horses currently at the arena will be moved temporarily to the Equestrian Center while work is underway.
As is Texas Tech policy, established animal-care protocols will apply to all animals housed at the arena. Work is expected to be finished for the fall semester.
Douglas “Dub” R. Parks graduated from Texas Tech in 1954 with a degree in agriculture sciences and participated in rodeo. He was killed in an auto accident shortly after his graduation. The arena was named after him in the late 1950s.
