Wind industry reports “robust” growth in 2009

The American Wind Energy Association on Thursday boasted strong industry growth in 2009 despite a lagging economy. The growth was aided in part by the renewal of the federal Production Tax Credit for renewable energy and other state-level initiatives in the U.S that make wind power an “active and robust” field.


Jamie Chapman, associate director of the Wind Science and Engineering Research Center at Texas Tech University, said in an interview that while investment in wind energy mostly comes from the private sector, the current credit program properly incentivizes the marketplace and should be extended for a period of years.

“You only get rewarded if it works, which is the way it should be,” Chapman said.
