Tech free tuition program could change many lives for the better

As Texas Tech administrators work toward building enrollment to 40,000 students by 2020 and increasing the system's endowment, they're trying to make as many educational opportunities as possible available to as many members of the Tech family as possible.

They're charting a commendable course by expanding the availability of free courses to employees and scholarships to their dependents at the university and other state schools.

Regents approved the establishment of the Texas Tech Employee Dependent Scholarship Program and the Employee Tuition Assistance Program, after the board's facilities committee heard a report from Jim Brunjes, Tech's chief financial officer.
