Chapter Alpha Phi of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Hispanic Honor Society, will host
its Second Annual Peace and Security Forum from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Wednesday (March 31)
in room 001 of the Education Building.
Panelists Cristina Bradatan representing Europe, Mohammad Maqusi representing the
Middle East, Dennis Patterson representing Asia and Andrés Vargas representing the
Americas will discuss the social, economic and political implications of global immigration.
Ambassador Tibor Nagy, vice provost for International Affairs, will represent Africa
and moderate the conversation.
The forum was initiated when Sigma Delta Pi advisor Comfort Pratt received a grant
from the Association of College Honor Societies in October of 2008. This year’s forum
will be funded by a grant from Texas Tech’s Student Government Association. Pratt
said last year’s forum brought together an amazing panel and received excellent reviews.
She said she hopes for continued success.
“We hope this year’s forum will inform participants about what is happening right
now regarding global immigration, and clarify issues pertaining to specific parts
of the world,” Pratt said. “The discussion will also provide an opportunity for participants
to interact with the panel and gain useful insights into various issues they are concerned
Pratt said Sigma Delta Pi is grateful for the coordination and selection of panelists
and moderation of the event once again by Nagy.
A reception will be held after the forum. For reservations, contact Pratt at firstname.lastname@example.org
by Friday (March 26).
