Energy Dept. facility may use wind energy for power needs

Wind soon could be powering the lights at the federal facility charged with overseeing the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile.

Under an agreement reached Jan. 12 between the Energy Department's National Nuclear Security Administration and Texas Tech University, a research wind farm could be installed at NNSA's Pantex Plant outside Amarillo, Texas, to generate electricity to power the plant. The Pantex Plant is charged with maintaining the safety, security and reliability of the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile.
