AEDC approves $100K grant for wind center

Money would help build energy research facility near Pantex

The Amarillo Economic Development Corp. on Wednesday approved a $100,000 grant to help Texas Tech University build a proposed National Wind Resource Center near the Pantex Plant.

If approved by Amarillo city commissioners, the AEDC grant also would help develop the National Institute for Renewable Energy, a public-private partnership launched in December to build and operate wind research farms and other renewable energy research facilities.

David Miller, Texas Tech's vice chancellor for commercialization and economic development, said Tech hopes to establish a wind research facility near Pantex that would be built by the National Institute for Renewable Energy.
