The seven Texas universities working toward Tier One funding status will rely heavily on increasing graduate student enrollment to make a stronger case before the state Legislature.
Unlike most of its peers and standard policy in the past, Texas Tech declined to release its preliminary enrollment estimate - typically issued after the 12th class day - in favor of waiting until after the 20th day as an issue of accuracy, a senior Tech official said.
That's the way we're going to do it this year and that's the way we're going to do it from this point on," said Russ Bookbinder, vice chancellor and chief marketing officer.
By waiting to release the information until the 20th day, Bookbinder said enrollment figures adjust for any students who may drop out or fail to pay.
