Many of us were prepared to wish outgoing McLennan Community College President Dennis Michaelis the best in his retirement, but it seems there’s no rest for someone of his considerable talents.
Hours after ending his 21-year tenure as MCC’s president, he began new duties as director of community college relations for Texas Tech’s College of Outreach and Distance Education, a post that plays upon his incredible success with MCC’s University Center program.
In his part-time post, Michaelis will help Lubbock-based Texas Tech develop strategies for programs at other community colleges similar to that of MCC’s University Center.
Michaelis will office at the MCC Foundation building, which means there’s one other big benefit to his Texas Tech job: He won’t have to actually live in dry, dusty West Texas to be of great service to it.
