When seasonal flu comes out to play this fall, it’ll probably be joined by a new friend: a novel strain of H1N1 influenza that emerged this spring and caused havoc around the globe.
And, while manufacturers are still scrambling to make enough of a new H1N1 vaccine to go around, local experts say it’s good hygiene and common sense that will serve as the next best preventive measures.
The health department, Treadwell said, is also working to secure enough vaccinations for school-age kids, and is helping schools and colleges put emergency preparedness plans in place. The Lubbock Independent School District, Frenship ISD and Lubbock-Cooper ISD have implemented extra hygiene precautions, they told The Avalanche-Journal recently, and Texas Tech is recommending students practice good hygiene and become vaccinated, according to their Web site.
