Agriculture Professor Named President of International Association

David Lawver will serve a three-year term as president of the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education.
Lawver recently received a Fulbright Grant to teach extension methods in Kenya.
David Lawver, an agricultural educator and Fulbright Grant award winner from Texas Tech University, was selected president of the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE).
“This position calls for a combination of intellectual depth and experience,” said John Burns, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. “AIAEE is fortunate to have a person like David Lawver, who brings together these traits in one individual.”
Lawver’s three-year team begins May 24 at the conclusion of the group’s annual conference in Puerto Rico. The theme of the meeting is “25 Years of Strengthening International Agricultural and Extension Education.”
“It is an honor to be chosen by my peers from around the world to lead the organization,” Lawver said. “I hope to encourage more participation by agricultural and extension educators from underrepresented countries.”
Lawver, a professor in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications, also recently received a Fulbright Grant from the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. He will teach extension methods during the fall semester at Egerton University near the east African provincial capital of Nakuru, Kenya. Read More.
Lawver joined the faculty in 1989 and became a professor in 2000. Prior to coming to the South Plains, he served as an assistant professor in agricultural education at Texas A&I University. He also worked as an agricultural science teacher in the Missouri communities of Higginsville, Bronaugh and Granby.
A native of Carl Junction, Mo., Lawver earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural education and vocational technical education from the University of Missouri. His doctorate in agricultural and extension education is from Mississippi State University. He currently serves on the managing editing board of the Journal of Agricultural Education.
The AIAEE was established in 1984 to provide a professional association for agricultural and extension educators who share the common goal of strengthening agricultural and extension education programs and institutions worldwide.
