Study to target soldier suicides

"We've not been in a scenario before where we've had such a small force that we've had to redeploy people repeatedly over a period of three to four years," said David Rudd, chairman of psychology at Texas Tech University, who is heading the study.

Rudd noted that in January, more U.S. soldiers took their own lives than were killed in combat.
