Texas Tech Law School Honors Distinguished Alumni

Three School of Law alumni honored for outstanding contributions to the law community and Texas Tech University.

The Texas Tech University School of Law recognized three distinguished alumni Feb. 20 at the Fifth Annual Law School Gala & Distinguished Awards Dinner at the Merket Alumni Center.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is given annually in recognition of service to the bench, the bar and the public. The Distinguished Service Award is given annually in recognition of outstanding service to the Texas Tech University School of Law.

The recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award are David H. Segrest and Glenn D. West. The recipient of the Distinguished Service Award is Tom Hall.

David H. Segrest

David H. Segrest, a member of the first graduating class in 1970 of the Texas Tech School of Law, has been a partner at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP for 38 years, representing public and private businesses in a variety of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations, workouts and financing arrangements. He has served in many leadership roles at Gardere, including managing partner. Segrest currently serves as president of the Texas Tech Law Foundation Board. A double-Texas Tech graduate, Segrest had the second highest score on the Texas Bar Exam and clerked for the Honorable Byron Skelton, judge of the U.S. Court of Claims in Washington, D.C. Glenn D. West

Glenn D. West, a 1978 graduate of the Texas Tech School of Law, is the managing partner of the Dallas office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. His practice concentrates on restructurings, private equity, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance for domestic and international clients. West also represents Hicks Sports Group Holdings, which owns the Texas Rangers Baseball Club, the Dallas Stars Hockey Club and the Liverpool Football Club, as well as Lightning Investment Holdings, which owns the Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Club. He also led the project finance for the American Airlines Center in Dallas. He is admitted to practice in New York, Texas and the District of Columbia. Tom Hall

Tom Hall, a 1981 Texas Tech law graduate, is founder and owner of Hall & Heygood LLP in Fort Worth. In 1988 Hall became member of the Texas Tech Law School Foundation and is still serving. He has been a sponsor of the advanced Moot Court Competition at Texas Tech School of Law since 1993 and has been an adjunct professor since 2004. He was admitted to Arizona Bar 1981 and to the Texas Bar in 1985. Hall is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth and Ninth Circuits and the District Court Northern Division of Texas. He is listed as a Super Lawyer in Texas by Texas Monthly magazine and has recently been voted Best Lawyer in Fort Worth by Fort Worth Magazine. Click to Enlarge.

Walter Huffman, dean of the Texas Tech School of Law, announced at the event that scholarships have been set up to honor Hall and Segrest. Also, Weil, Gotshal & Manges firm and partners endowed the Glenn D. West Research Professorship in the amount of $250,000 to honor West.
